I was engaged by Jonas Yoder Custom Homes in 2022 to provide conceptual design services for a custom home on Bird Key for their client. After a pause in the planning the house is under construction with completion expected in 2026.​

The Owners wanted to the house to have an “Old Florida” aesthetic with metal roofing and extensive front porches. Shading devices were added to protect the west facing interior and exterior living spaces.​

The Owners program, or list of spaces needed, included formal living and dining rooms, four bedrooms, porches and a pool. Significant HOA setbacks for the property made accommodating that large program on the odd shaped lot challenging. ​​

A careful balance between the demands of the program, the tight buildable area and the formal exterior design was required to satisfy these sometimes-competing concerns.
